While teens are in residence four days a week, Beacon welcomes the younger set, ages 9-12, on Wednesdays and Fridays with staff dedicated to delivering a program based on the children's interests as well as the need to build basic skills. Participants have fun doing hands-on science, honing math facts, tinkering in the maker space, watching documentaries, and going to local playgrounds and museums. High interest classes and activities, such as an interactive workshop on the use of music in animation, or working with the kids to design and build furniture collaboratively, will be added as interests spark. From individual piano lessons to group study of astronomy and space--the days are filled with rich activity, but also include time to explore, relax, read, play games, and socialize.
